MY CAMPAIGNS

SOME OF MY VICTORIES

In this message you'll read about the changes that have been happened in the UNHCR office in Beirut, after I had openly spoke about these issues publicly on the net.

You will see how it's possible by using the net to make changes in the procedures and the system of the UNHCR, by using peaceful ways, by speaking from your heart with your pain, and sharing inspirations.

For all my friends whom advised me to stop my mission, here is my answer If you care about UNHCR, refugees, human rights and democracy. If you believe that democracy is one way to make changes in procedures and systems for better performance, not only changing the faces of the people who hold the power of choice, if you're interested in knowing more about what it means to face the risk and remain standing in the position you are in.

You will find this message interesting for you.
Good luck.

1t Victory

Power and bribes

Years ago, before I started my mission on the net, there was the UNHCR office in Beirut for the assistance for the refugees in Lebanon, and there was a policeman named Hasean (The God of the refugees) his job is to guard the office and is employed by the government of Lebanon, but instead of this job he does another job as a doorman and a messenger, between the refugees, and the people inside the office of the UNHCR.

So for any one that needs to speak with the people of the UNHCR (The employees) refugees/asylum-seekers must speak first with Hasen, and he will then decide whether or not, to tell the people inside the UNHCR!!! Let me to tell you what this means from the beginning. Try to imagine yourself as one asylum-seeker, and you need to submit an application for refugee statue in UNHCR office in Beirut, so you need to go to the office and to ask Hasen about the procedures and he will tell you: “Come on Monday”.

When you come on Monday, Hasen will give you a small paper with number, and to come back on another day The appointed day that you return, you need to give this small paper to Hasen, so he will lead you inside the office to fill out form, and to take another small paper with an appointment for interview in 6 to 7 months or maybe one year. At the day of the appointment you must give the small paper to Hasen so he will let you enter the UNHCR office. And the procedure is like this: every time and every day when you have to do some thing with UNHCR you must start with Hasen!!! He is your God and you must gain his love and his trust. Because he is the doorman of the haven!!!

I think until now you didn’t understand to well about the situation so to understand well what is the real role of Mr. Hasen you must know that you can do nothing with UNHCR unless you tell Hasen what you need first, and he will go inside the office and give your request to the people inside will then tell Hasen so he will come back, and tell you the results of your request, or the answer to your question if you have one!!!

Hasen is the messenger, or the link between the people outside the haven and the people inside. Maybe you will think that this is his job, or he's doing this to help only, NO, this isn’t the reason for that!!!

Lets look at what the truth of the matter is, in these details: My friends there are more than 100 people that come to the office every day, and every one has many questions, and they are all asking Hasen to tell the people inside the office about these questions, and this causes many problems for the refugees, because Hasen knows nothing about the job of UNHCR, and some times he brings incorrect information from inside, and that blocks or prevents any direct contact between the refugees, and UNHCR staff.

All day long Hasen goes up and down the steps into the office, and comes out willingly and it’s really hard to do this all day, but he does it alone, and notice that when he goes inside, he leaves his position at the door where his job is to protect the office, and that means this will cause him some problems if his boss passes by, just by chance, and find him not at his position!!!

So why does Hasen takes this trouble and risk his employment???!!! BRIBE Ya, bribe is the answer, the salary of Hasen is between $400 to $600 a month, so if 5 refugees from100 give him $10 every day that means he will have $50 by the end of the day, and $1500 at the end of the month!!! That's triple of what he takes from the government!!!

Which one of you will refuse to do this, if he has the chance to do it safely, and for years?!!! I hope you understand the situation; more overly, let me to tell you about my personal experience with Hasen.

After 11th of September, I felt that I have a lot to tell on the net about Terrorism and Saddam, so I started my mission on the net, and because of that, I felt an increase risk that I will face, because of my ideas, so I need to have some kind of protection, and who will provide me with that protection here in Lebanon, except the UNHCR.

So I went to the office to see how I can have refugee statue, and every body there told me you must ask Hasen, and I did this. I kept going there every day for nearly 2 months, and speaking with Hasen every day without any result, maybe because I didn’t give him the $10 (I didn’t have much money at that time and even if I have I didn't give into making bribe) so I decided to use the net to speak with the people in side the palace of UNHCR and I started to send E-mails, and you know the rest of the story.

After what I said about Hasen on the net in my website and my messages to the UNHCR I found, it was not possible for the situation to stay the same, when many people start to ask about Hasen from around the world, so they told him to stay aside and for him to do his job without any interference, of the jobs and issues of the UNHCR office.

Now he does one job, that's to checkup on any one that goes inside the office, "and for security concern only". And because of this, he works with the people of UNHCR to set the plot against me, and with the police to arrest me!!!

This was my first victory.

Notification: Hansen had been removed from the office of UNHCR completely after some months.

The queen is out of the palace now

The question now is: Who do what did Hasen do before? The answer is: One employee from the UNHCR, a woman from the staff itself (People from inside the palace) and that means that we have direct contact with the UNHCR, not through Hasen the policeman, who works for the Lebanese government. Good and very good. Now at least one of them will go outside to speak with us and he will look in our eyes, and see our pain, noticing our deep rooted problems and to answer our questions. To feel the hot and cool outside the office with us.

This was my second victory.

No money for phones

Every refugee must provide the UNHCR with phone numbers, so they can contact him when they need him, this was the procedure for years. When they asked for my phone number I refused to give because naturally I don’t have the money for mobile phone, and even if I did I wouldn't give a number out, because of what I call death row for refugees (You can read the details in my message: Death row for refugees) and I spoke about that too much before.

So they changed this for another system like this:

They put a new announcement board out side the office (On the fence) so they will put the numbers of refugees’ files whom they need to come to the office for an appointment or registration.

And I asked the woman who usually goes outside the office to speak with refugees (Jorjet) about the time that we need to control the board for any new numbers, and she told me “you need to come every 2 weeks” and I gave her big thank from my heart, and all of the refugees in Lebanon.

Since I refused to give any phone numbers and I criticized much of the procedures that have been going on, so they changed, to a new procedure, and that's good for me until now, and anyone that needs this service.

That was my third victory

Now I’ll tell you the difference between the procedures before I started my mission and after:

Before:

  1. All the refugees must speak with the policeman Hasen first, and he is our connection with UNHCR, and this creates a large problem, and the cause of many misunderstandings between the refugees and the UNHCR. One of the problems that we have, is to pay the bribe.

  2. Every refugee has the right to come to the office every 6 months to renew his card, and he deal with Hasen only.

  3. Every refugee must wait years for a phone call from UNHCR, and sometimes he misses it, or it doesn’t come at all any way, and he has no right to ask any question, before he has this call, because if he goes to the office, Hasen will not agree to take his question inside the office.
After:
  1. Any refugee can go to the office of the UNHCR and stand on the platform right out side the office waiting for a woman that works inside the office (One of the staff of the UNHCR) and he can ask her a question. Marvels this doesn’t exist before!!!
  2. Every refugee has the right to go to the office at lest one time every 2 weeks to look in announcement board to look for his or her file number. So he doesn’t need to wait years like before for one call, and he doesn’t need to have a phone.
  3. Now the refugees don’t need to pay Hasen any bribe (LOL) or to pay for money to the companies of mobile phone.

Why I don’t stop now?

My friends some of you asked me this question: why don’t you stop now, and  look to find secure place?

A)    It’s hard to speak all my feelings, but I’ll try to tell you some.

When I started to go to the office of UNHCR a year ago, and nearly every day (I didn't work for a year) I started to meet with new people every day, I looked in their eyes, I spoke with them, I heard their voices, and I felt their heart full of pain.

I saw thousands of people live with one hope, to have the chance to speak with one of the staff of UNHCR in Beirut, and how they can pass Hasen to go inside the UNHCR haven, the palace of the UN.

One day there was an old woman with children from Iraq, they sat on the ground, it was about morning, and they were hungry and poor, another woman from Sudan noticed that family, so she went outside the garage of the UNHCR where the people wait, and she brought sandwiches for that family, to feed the children. I was there and I swear with the name of my God on that. I thought inside myself what happen if one of the staff of the UNHCR goes outside to see how we live instead of Hasen?!!

And what if this is my family and those children are mine?!!! Or yours?!! They could be distant cousins of yours!!!

Another day there was a young woman, she wanted to speak with any one of the staff of the UNHCR but Hasen refused to let her go in, she begged him, but he refused, she started to cry every body saw her tears, I cried with her and I left the place, because I can’t bear this situation!!! So could this young woman is my sister?!! Or Yours. She is family to someone!!!

There were old women, old men, disabled people, and children. All those people want and need to speak with one of the staff of UNHCR, so many times I left that place with tears in my eyes.

I had big desire to help those people by bring attention of this situation and the people with their pain. One time I thought about burning myself with petrol in UNHCR’s garage to bring the attention, but I thought they will say that I’m just crazy, and some of you know that I did this before, so I forgot about this idea. Another idea came to my mind, that I would write what I want with paint on the walls of the office to bring the attention, but after I find that it's a violent act, and it's against my peaceful beliefs.

So I find only the net, to bring the attention to our situation as refugees in Lebanon, and I used it well, and I made some success with the help of many of my friends on the net who helped us by sending messages to UNHCR in Lebanon and in Geneva.

My friends, every time when I go there now, and I see the new procedures, and I saw that the pain inside the refugees grow less, I feel proud and happy, and I forget all the suffering, and risks that I made for myself in one year, just to It’s true that the UNHCR, and Hasen think that I must be killed for all of this, and I agree with them and I’m ready to accept this and I’m happy, because at the judgment day I’ll ask my God to collect all the happiness, that I made inside thousands of refugees in Lebanon, and maybe in other places in the world, and to put this happiness in my account, so how much happiness will I have?????

So I will not stop, I will continue watching UNHCR and I’ll say every thing to help the refugees in Lebanon, and all the flaws that are in the UNHCR, because nobody else will do this. Plus there many more changes to be made. My friends thanks for your time and your understanding and your help, if you think that you need to contact the UNHCR to support us with our struggle against the UNHCR so you can contact them on these E-mails: mailto:ecu@un.org,inquiries@un.org,Hqpr00@Unhcr.Ch,yves.de.san@undp.org.lb,registry@undp.org.lb,lebbe@unhcr.ch,djemalim@unhcr.ch

You can copy all these E-mails and past in one message, or just click on.

I would love to tell you some thing about this: I don’t want you to contact UNHCR to tell them about me, because they know every thing about me, and I can send them thousands of messages at any time I want and when I need to, I did this before, and the proof is in my messages: My several attacks on the UN, but I love to give you the chance to collect some happiness at your judgment day by helping thousands of people in Lebanon and million around the world.

For this I call all the people in the world who claim that they work with many organizations to help the refugees, and they collect money from donors with our name and our pain.

We are the refugees and asylum seekers in Lebanon ask you to send E-mails to UNHCR as supporting for our demands to have the right to enter the garage of the UNHCR in Beirut.

We don’t ask for your money, so take the money for you but just send some messages at least you will be able to speak for the donors that you helped some refugees and asylum seeker in Lebanon and this will coast you nothing!!!

I hope that you will learn some thing about how possible help refugees with their real problems.
