The Iraqi refugees stopped their strike before yesterday at noon which continued for 10 days in the office of UNHCR in Almatihaff, after a promise from the director of the office, Mr. Mustapha Djemali to resume issuing the cards to the refugees next Monday, and according to a meeting obtained by the office with the American embassy in Lebanon yesterday afternoon with the ambassador Vincent Battle and the American consular.
Battel
promised the refugee’s delegation to follow-up their case and he
ensured the intent of his country to travel them, since it
promised them with resettlement on its land, and he ensured them,
that he will contact them in 2 weeks through the office of UNHCR
to inform them with the latest news, he explained that the delay
was due to the security procedures that the American government
took after September 11th not for anything else. 16*
Worth
mentioning here is the number of the Iraqi refugees whom had been
promised to resettlement in USA is around 400. |
