Chapter 4

TERRORISM

God, fear, love & death

Our understanding of life depends on the reflection of our inner feelings. We can’t understand things in our life without understanding our own inner self first, for that we need to understand our feelings as humans, I like to think I am a humanitarian, but as we are all members of the human race this should apply to all of us.

There are many philosophers in our history who have dealt with ideas and with the meaning of words more than dealing with human nature. For me the meanings of words are inside the human, for me the human being is sacred even in front of God. I can tell much about that from the Islamic holy book (Al Qur’an) but first I would like just to tell you my opinion about Christianity ideology.

In Christianity, Jesus is God, in the form of his son; he came to earth from heaven in the shape of a human being (materialized) but with spirit of God. In the bible it says, "That God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son Jesus" Jesus came to earth to help humanity to learn about forgiveness, peace, and love. That meant God loved and respected humans, and the proof of this is that Jesus was sent to earth from heaven to help us and teach us.

We understand that God created everything, and wanted humanity to live better lives with greater understanding (hard job for God). In my opinion the human is the center of the universe physically, and God is the center of the universe spiritually (I hope, I will not make any enemies because of this idea).

Maybe now you’ll think, there are contradiction in my ideas, “ How is it possible for God to love humans, and he created everything to make our life better, but at the same time he created; fear, pain, death sickness and disability. I’ll answer this question; but first I want to ask you this, what is death?

Death is the end of our physical life and the return to our spiritual life; it’s just changing our status. Death isn’t the end of the life in our bodies. Years ago I read a book about how we can live a long time with good health, but I lost it because it’s hard for me to keep my things, without a permanent home.

I’ll just try to remember what the author of that book spoke about the subject. He mentioned that there are living materials (molecules) and they have a special chemical composition, he explained how the molecules will become part of other living creatures (the animals and planets) and he explained how these molecules move from dead bodies to another bodies in nature (I don’t remember how unfortunately) he said that these materials move from one being to another after death by dissolution.

That means, with death our living materials will continue their life somewhere in another living creature. Maybe after my death I will be in an animal body or in a tree! (I hope to find that book again) death is only one part of the circle of life; birth and death. This concept exists in many human faiths as reincarnation and resurrection.

Fear and pain help us to keep our life safe, and be continuous. I respect fear as a noble human feeling. Many people think that fear is shame and they think it makes you a coward, but I don't think so. This feeling is the result of upbringing in our early life as children. I respect fear, like I respect love, both are human feelings, and are part of our humanity.

Sickness and disability are just the contrast for health and happiness. Our God created life to be beautiful and full of happiness, but we need to feel that and to see the blessings of God. But how we can feel and see the greatness of our creator? Simply put, the purpose of sickness and disability is just to show humanity the meaning of being healthy. To have the full power to work and practice and enjoy all the activities that normal humans are able to do.

We make sense of our life by understanding and comparing things, balancing one with the other, this is true whatever the things are, emotional, physical, spiritual or material. Every thing in the life has its opposite, birth-death, happiness-sadness, sickness-health, good-bad, Black-white. We learn by comparing things with its contrasting opposite.

When we see an old man or a disabled person begging in the streets, we will have sympathy with him and we will speak " Oh, poor man” and maybe we will help him, but at the same time there is another very deep feeling in us when we see this person. That deep feeling is the motive for us for work hard and to love our work, because it keep us from being like that person who is begging in the streets.

Our God is able to create us all rich and have everything (like Eve and Adam in heaven) but if this were so who would work or find out what the test of his life will be, how will he measure his true worth as a human being. Do you want to be like Midas, the man who wished that everything he touched will be turned to gold. Like him you would be disappointed because he found gold is an inedible substance.

Sickness, disability and poverty are tests from God to us humans to show us the meaning of life and hopefully learn wisdom. Our feelings in our physical body are the first step on our way to see the greatness of our God and the more material things we can surrender then the more awareness of spiritual things we will have which will bring us closer to our God.

I think death is just another step in our spiritual life that will bring us closer to our great God, creator of all.
